Creative Writing Course

The Rangitawa Creative writing course covers craft basics. It is designed for beginners and hobby writers. Assignments will not be graded but will be assessed and receive constructive criticism. The course is aimed at improving and informing student’s practical writing skills with enjoyable assignments. The course bridges the gap between school English lessons and University or college papers. It will appeal to mature students or those wishing to write family histories and memoirs. Students will learn how to:-

  • Avoid common mistakes in punctuation and grammar.
  • To plot your narratives and develop characters.
  • To write an interesting first sentence.
  • To ‘show not tell’ your story.
  • How to use figures of speech and avoid clichés.
  • To write credible dialogue and a good short story.
  • To proof read and edit your work to a good standard.

This course is divided into seven sections covering the above topics. It contains examples of narratives to explain and illustrate each subject. Students may write fiction or non-fiction (except erotica) for their assignments. Students will receive feedback within three weeks from their tutor. No text books are required. On completion of the course an overall evaluation will be sent to the student.

The course can be completed in six months and costs $460.00 gst inc.
